January Farmhouse Breakfast Week

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day it is the fuel that gets you up and running!

Farmhouse Breakfast Week 2007 runs from 21st - 27th January and is encouraging people to get active as part of a healthy lifestyle with the theme "Make Time for It!”
There is a saying that says:
“Breakfast like a King,
Lunch like a lord,
 Supper like a pauper.”
Studies show that many school children skip breakfast before school. The research has shown that if you eat a balanced breakfast, you will be able to concentrate better at school. This might not seem important but just think, you will also have more energy and concentration for games and other less school focused fun in the playground.
Sometimes you may be late getting up occasionally you may not feel like eating breakfast, try and work out why this is. Perhaps it is because you went to bed too late and feel too tired, or maybe you are just fed up with the same old cereal everyday – boring! So make sure that you get enough sleep and ring some changes on your breakfast menu.
Why not try:

  • New varieties of breads, crumpets muffins or home made muffins.
  • Local honeys, jams and marmalade – it is Seville orange season again.
  •  Interesting fruits’
  • Eggs – there are so many recipes.
  • Your local butcher’s sausages and bacon – but grilling is better than frying, for the healthier option.
  •  Smoothies

Don’t forget porridge. Oats release energy slowly, keeping your tummy full until lunchtime. You can make porridge overnight in a slow oven, or take just minutes by cooking it on the hob or in the microwave.
Porridge serving ‘add-on’ suggestions are endless but here are a few to think about as you stir the oats.

  • Brown sugar and Greek yogurt
  • Cinnamon sugar (cinnamon and caster sugar)
  • Fruit compotes
  • Dried fruit and banana

Lili has come up with a homemade sausage recipe for older children to make and we also have a Smoothie recipe.
